Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or similar field; or a high school diploma/equivalent and four years of experience in accounting, finance, or similar field. (Note: a combination of post high school education and experience equal to four years.)
The Controller's Office offers career ladders for many of our positions, providing tenured employees with promotional opportunities within their job. The successful candidate will be hired at the most appropriate level of University Accountant I through IV, based on their specific education and experience.

Anticipated Salary Range
Commensurate with education and experience; minimum salary of $47,500.

Responsibilities
- Coordinates, monitors, and processes journal entries to the university ledger, including interdepartmental requisitions and transfers, third party interface journals, expenditure refunds, and other miscellaneous journals and corrections.
- Reviews transactions for validity, proper authorizations, use of chartfields, accuracy of data, and compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and university policies and procedures.
- Provides timely responses to inquiries received through the group inbox as a member of the team.
- Assists and advises university departments regarding accounting transactions, financial reports, and the interpretation and reconciliation of departmental ledgers.
- Performs review of university ledgers and financial statements to identify variances and/or atypical balances and follows up with departments as appropriate.
- Processes requests for updates to OMNI optional chartfields, including the review of submitted forms, updates to the OMNI system, and assistance with special projects related to the OMNI General Ledger as assigned.

- Level I - Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or similar field OR a combination of post-high school, relevant education and accounting, finance, or similar experience equal to four years.
- Level II - Level I requirements plus an additional two years of relevant experience OR a Master's degree in accounting, finance, or similar field. FSU Financial Representative Certificate and FSU Customer Service Certificate preferred.
- Level III - Level II requirements plus an additional two years of relevant experience.
- Level IV - Level III requirements plus an additional two years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service while responding to inquiries from university departments and internal stakeholders in a timely and professional manner.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to clearly explain accounting transactions, financial reports, and university procedures.
- Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within a collaborative team environment and across university departments.
- Skilled in gathering, reviewing, interpreting, and reconciling financial and accounting data for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
- High level of attention to detail with the ability to process journal entries, financial transactions, and system updates accurately in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to prioritize, organize, and manage multiple assignments simultaneously while meeting deadlines and maintaining quality standards.
- Knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP), accounting systems, fiscal technologies, university policies, and applicable laws and regulations related to financial operations.
