A high school Varying Exceptionalities (VE) teacher manages Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), adapts curriculum, and provides specialized instruction for students with diverse needs, focusing on academic success and transition planning. They collaborate with general education teachers to implement accommodations in inclusion settings and provide targeted small-group or one-on-one instruction.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
-IEP Development and Compliance: Write, review, and update individualized education plans, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.
-Instructional Adaptation and Delivery: Modify general education curriculum, create specialized lesson plans, and implement evidence-based interventions to meet diverse learning needs.
-Collaboration and Co-Teaching: Work with general education teachers, paraprofessionals, and specialists to provide in-class support and, at times, co-teach.
-Progress Monitoring and Assessment: Administer formal and informal assessments, track progress on IEP goals, and report data to parents quarterly.
-Transition Planning: Prepare high school students for life after graduation, focusing on employment, independent living, or post-secondary education.
-Behavior Management: Implement positive behavioral interventions and support systems to foster a productive learning environment.
-Communication and Advocacy: Maintain regular communication with parents, administrators, and counselors to advocate for student needs.
-Classroom Support and Inclusion: Foster a culture of belonging by supporting students in general education classrooms, enhancing social engagement and access to the curriculum
