Responsibilities
  • The successful candidate will be responsible for a suite of activities centered on the delivery of functioning CE-H cassettes to SX5 for integration into the full CE instrument. These primarily consist of the development of testing software and frameworks for CE-H single- and multi-cassette quality assurance and quality control testing, the evaluation of cassette quality based on these tools, and the diagnosis of problems. As part of this work, the successful candidate will exercise the production backend readout system on CE-H cassettes and work with others to tailor the system configuration to CE-H as required.
  • Although based at Fermilab, the successful candidate will contribute to the development of the CE-H cassette reception testing and post-insertion testing workflow at SX5. The candidate will serve as an expert on call for CE-H cassette testing at SX5 and will be required to make some trips to CERN to facilitate this work.
  • A core component of responsibilities spanning all tasks is the training of students and postdocs to use and improve the systems developed.

Qualifications

Academic doctorate or highest level terminal degree from an accredited institution in Physics or related discipline, or equivalent qualifications based on professional experience and otherwise qualified to perform assigned duties, with emphasis on experimental particle physics.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working on the CMS High Granularity Calorimeter
  • Minimum of 3 years postdoctoral experience
