Responsibilities

• Leads monographic cataloging operations, including the creation, editing, analysis, and quality control of metadata for monographic and foreign language resources.
• Develops, implements, and improves cataloging and metadata workflows and coordinates the identification and remediation of metadata quality issues.
• Applies established cataloging and authority control standards and works with local and statewide colleagues on cataloging practices and system-wide changes.
• Supervises two full-time cataloging staff and provides training, guidance, and documentation related to monographic and foreign language cataloging.
• Contributes to the work of FSU Libraries and the profession through collaborative projects, committees, research, professional organizations, conferences, and continuing education.

Qualifications

• MLS/MLIS degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association (or international equivalent), or a master's degree in a specialized area directly relevant to the position.
• At least one year of cataloging experience using MARC 21 and experience applying established cataloging standards and guidelines such as RDA, NACO, LCC, and PCC.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to take initiative, learn new technologies and technical skills quickly, and adapt to changing priorities.
• Ability to plan and coordinate projects and workflows, provide clear guidance and documentation, and work both independently and collaboratively.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with colleagues in a collaborative environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with or interest in cataloging resources in non-Roman alphabets, particularly Chinese, Japanese, and/or Korean, or a background in linguistics or language studies.
• Familiarity with library systems and tools used for cataloging and authority control, such as Ex Libris Alma, OCLC Connexion, NACO, ORCID, or ISNI.
• Experience in supervision, project management, and/or providing instruction and training in an academic or research library environment.

This position will lead cataloging operations for monographic resources in all languages, including materials in non-Roman scripts, and will work with colleagues to re-envision monographic and foreign language cataloging procedures at FSU. A particularly exciting area of exploration will be the use of AI-assisted approaches to support the translation and transliteration of materials in non-Roman alphabets, particularly Chinese, Japanese, and Korean, while maintaining the accuracy and quality essential to library metadata.

This faculty librarian will supervise two full-time catalogers and will combine hands-on cataloging expertise with workflow development, staff training, quality control, and collaborative problem solving. Anticipated Salary Range

$60,000 - $75,00, commensurate with education and experience.
