Key Duties of a High School Counsel or Academic Development:
-Counselors review transcripts, manage course scheduling, ensure graduation requirements are met, and provide academic support to improve classroom performance.
-College and Career Planning: They provide career counseling, help with college applications, assist with resume writing, organize college fairs, and facilitate financial aid opportunities like FAFSA.
-Social/Emotional Support: Counselors provide short-term, solution-focused counseling for personal issues and facilitate group sessions for issues like executive functioning or self-esteem.
-Crisis Management & Advocacy: They offer immediate support during personal or school-wide crises, intervene in situations involving abuse or safety, and act as advocates during IEP (Individual Education Plan) or 504 meetings.
-Consultation & Collaboration: They work with parents, teachers, and administrators to support student success, mediating conflicts between students and staff.
-Data Analysis: They utilize school data to identify student needs, monitoring attendance and behavior to provide timely interventions.
