- Read and analyze scripts to understand character, setting, and costume requirements.
- Research historical periods, cultures, and fashion trends to ensure costume accuracy and authenticity.
- Collaborate with the director, production designer, and other creative departments to develop a cohesive visual style.
- Design costumes for each character, considering personality, status, setting, and movement needs.
- Create sketches, mood boards, and fabric swatches to communicate design concepts.
- Oversee costume construction or rental.
- Schedule fittings and adjust designs as needed for comfort, performance, and appearance.
- Manage costume budget, track expenses, and make cost-effective decisions.
- Coordinate costume logistics for rehearsals and performances.
- Costume maintenance and repairs, especially during production runs.
- Be able to travel between school campuses.
Qualifications
- Experience in Costume Design or related field. Students currently working on a degree in theatrical costume design or related field will also be considered.
- Extensive costuming knowledge.
